Intentions and Destiny
It took time for me to see and believe that God gave me the power to change my destiny. He gave that same power to you too, but I was clueless to the fact that every demise in my life was created by me, myself and I. The good news is that God gave you and I yet another gift in life. Because of this gift, we have the power to change every demise into a blessing in disguise.LESSONS WITH DESTINY AND TIPS FOR CHANGING IT:
1. Pay attention to unintentional intentions.
I used to believe that destiny led me, instead of the other way around. I was unaware the power was there and everywhere, but a quote by Douglas Adams gave me a clue. His wisdom seemed to hit me between the eyes. “I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I’ve ended up where I intended to be.” I knew what he meant, but it wasn’t until I ended up in a place I never intended to be before I began to see the power God gave to me. Apparently, I learn things best with experience, rather than listening to what his wisdom said.
The journey to change and rearrange my destiny began in the midst of a deadly disease, which I now see was created by my fearful mind. I’d never heard of stage four Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, but you see, the disease didn’t care how unaware or unprepared I might be. No matter how unfair it seemed, I was branded with the big, “C.” That’s when the disease began to identify me, and since the fear left me confused, I had no clue what my intentions could do. It wasn’t until my Oncologist said with such conviction, “Be prepared to lose your hair,” that I paid attention.
2. When facing fear, make your intention very clear.
It took me some time to realize that if I refused to face my fear, the monster in my mind would bite my behind all the time. Needless to say, I was scared. It seemed frightening enough to me that I’d have to face my fear of death and the mess this disease made of me, but why did I have to face the fear of losing all my hair? It may seem that my vanity was stronger than my fear of death, but that’s not true. God simply used this new demise as a blessing in disguise, to help me see how to change where fear was leading my life. You see, I’d never been bald and bald thoughts never entered my mind, so I made up my mind that I’d refuse to be bald at all. With a determined mind, I made an intention to find hair to spare.
3. Follow God’s lead, no matter how scary it seems.
I looked all around, but not one wig store was found on my side of town. That’s when the internet became God’s mysterious way to lead me to my next destiny. The problem with this was the fact that the only store around was found within a very rough side of town.
I was a teacher, for heaven’s sake. I’d not have been caught dead in a place where angels fear to tread, but you see, my fear of going bald was greater than my fear of the demise that the rough side of town might bring to my life. With nothing but a determined will that refused to go bald, I arrived at the very place I never intended to go, but ended up where I intended to be, ironically. Looking through the bars on the windows and doors, it was very clear to see hair was everywhere inside the store.
4. Look for the gifts hidden behind every demise.
I marched through the doors as boldly as my fear allowed me, but the heads of hair who seemed to stare at me were haunting. The store clerk looked surprised when I walked inside, but he couldn’t have been more surprised than I when I looked into his eyes. Tattoos covered his bare arms and who knows what else, so I tried to hide my eyes. You see, he appeared to be a criminal and I’d never seen a guy with so many piercing’s in my life. Even so and although he appeared to be a thief, who knew he’d become my heaven sent friend in the end? Fear can blind us to the gifts left behind every demise, so I closed my eyes and tried to pretend that I knew why I was there and where I was going, but my determined mind became replaced with what I’m sure was a pathetic look on my face.
“What can I do to help you,” the tattooed guy asked me? I had no clue that he’d been standing my side all that time, but I tried to smile. “I’m just browsing,” I lied. I so wanted him to go and leave me alone, but the guy remained by my side and to my dismay, a lump began to form in my throat. “Please help me.” I prayed silently in my mind, but apparently the rough looking guy could read my mind.
5. Ask with faith and believe you are worthy.
“Why don’t you sit down and allow me to help,” he said. When he offered a chair, I complied. I don’t know why, but I tend to cry when fear grips my mind in the midst of someone who’s kind. “I’m sorry, but you see, I have cancer and I’ll lose my hair eventually, so I need spare hair right away,” I apologized to the guy and tried to explain in a dignified way, but as hard as I tried to be dignified, buckets of tears began to pour down my cheeks and onto the floor. He didn’t say anything initially, but looking around the room, he asked me to look around too. Only then, did it become apparent to me that hair was everywhere, obviously, so maybe it was true and I’d ended up exactly where God intended me to be.
6. Be aware that there will always be more than enough of what you need.
The angel, disguised as a criminal, found a tissue for me and that’s when he exclaimed, “I know exactly what you need.” The next thing I knew, he came back to my chair with two heads of hair. “Meet Thelma and Louise,” he introduced them to me. He explained the fact that synthetic wigs would be easy for me to keep. All I’d need to do would be to rinse them out and the style would always remain in place. Besides, they’d gone on sale that very day, and since I could buy two for the price of one, I eagerly tried them on. Thelma made me appear to be a mysterious brunette, but Louise made me feel as if I’d become a voluptuous blonde. The guy told me Louise could be just for fun. “You look gorgeous in each,”he said. Oddly enough, I agreed, and by the time he was finished with me, I felt mysteriously glamorous and the best part is the fact that when I walked out the door, I had more hair than I’d ever had before.
7. Express an attitude of gratitude for the gift that you intend to receive, but is yet to be seen.
I thanked the same guy who previously appeared to be a criminal to me, as he walked me to the door. He seemed to be protective and watched out for me until I’d placed Thelma and Louise carefully in the passenger’s seat. Getting in the driver’s seat, I threw caution to the wind as I waved good bye to my angel in disguise and heaven sent friend. Feeling completely at ease, I rolled the windows down as I blasted through the rough side of town. “I’ll never be bald,” I shouted gleefully, and my two new wigs seemed to agree. The wind blew our hair as the radio blared and I’m sure we were a sight to see, but I’ve never felt so grateful to be powerfully free as I did that day with Thelma and Louise.
8. Listen to God’s wisdom, and believe faithfully, there’s always a gift left behind every demise.
On the way, I believe I heard God say, “I’ve given you the power to change and rearrange your destiny.” The only thing I knew to say in reply was, “Amen,” but that’s when I realized that I’d already changed my destiny, because you see, “Amen,” is another way to say “And so it is.” It’s an intention.
9. Recognize the gift and acknowledge it.
The months went by, and to my Oncologist surprise, I never lost one hair on my fearless head. “It’s impossible,” he said. Still, I believe that Thelma and Louise reminded me that God provides abundantly. I’d never be bald unless I chose to be. Since my intention was very clear, not only did I keep my hair, but with Thelma and Louise, I had hair to spare. The angel in disguise was right. The wigs were fun for a while, but they became God’s way to teach me how to change my destiny in life.
10. When your destiny arrives, ponder the meaning of the history mystery.
Ironically, God led me to a rough looking guy in a bad side of town, who sold two wigs to me, named Thelma and Louise, because you see, I’d been too blind t how to change my destiny. What we resist must persist, and because of this experience, today when I find fear in my mind, it’s as if God whispers in my ear, “Look for the gift in this, my dear.” I can honestly say that God took my disease and used it to release the fear from me, so today I remain cancer free, but more importantly, I’ve become fearlessly, victim free, and that’s why today I never hesitate to follow God’s lead.
TO CONCLUDE:
To conclude, I’d like to remind you of the truth. You already know how to change and rearrange your destiny. It’s deep within your soul. Just the other day, I heard someone say, “If God takes you to it, He will get you through it,” so it’s not that I found any wisdom you don’t own. We all have the power God gave to human beings. Still, before I conclude, here’s one more tip for you.
When your story is said and done, share it with someone. It’s the powerful way God uses you to improve humanity too. My story is done and as of today, I don’t have another one. I tend to tell everyone I meet the story of Thelma, Louise and me. The story of mine is told by me in different ways, but the message remains the same. The only thing I know is true is the fact that we do have the power to change, rearrange or keep our destiny the same. It’s a choice we make with the free will God gave to us, and because that’s true, we can change the destiny of humanity too. God gave the gift to me, but He gave it to you too. The power is there. It’s everywhere, so please pay attention to your unintentional intentions. What we think and believe will, most definitely, become our destiny.
